The city is expected to become brighter in the next few weeks as more than 8,000 city streetlights are converted to LED lighting.
About 5,638 streetlights owned by Atlantic City Electric will be replaced with the light-emitting diode bulbs, followed by another 3,000 Atlantic City-owned streetlights during the next few months.
The switch to LED lighting will make streets brighter, conserve energy and lower the city’s energy costs, officials said.
“This innovative energy solution can help people, because it can make the community safer, as well as saving money and conserving energy,” New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Richard S. Mroz said.
Atlantic City will use about $750,000 to cover installation costs for lights owned by Atlantic City Electric. About $1.25 million in funds will be used to replace the streetlights owned by the city.
