Burlington Township in midst of retail resurgence

Retail growth along a heavily traveled corridor between Burlington City and Mount Holly could lead to a job boom here.

Development is huddled along Burlington-Mount Holly Road (Route 541) on both sides of the intersection with Interstate 295 at Exit 47 and within a mile of the New Jersey Turnpike.

A coffee stop, cellphone store and a vitamin shop all recently opened in Burlington Township at the Town Crossing Shopping Center and a clothing store, a German grocery, fast-food restaurant, paint store and another coffee shop are on their way on Route 541 at or near Sunset Road. Starbucks has a freestanding location and a concession inside Target.

The largest business under construction is a Burlington Store, formerly known as Burlington Coat Factory and whose corporate headquarters and two warehouses are located on the westernmost side of the township. The company was founded in 1972 and opened its original store in Burlington but closed it nearly 10 years ago.
