Officials gathered in Bridgeton for a groundbreaking ceremony to kick off construction of a new food specialization facility.
The Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) along with several other organizations are funding the project, which is expected to cost $10 million in total.
The opening of the Food Specialization Center will allow companies that graduate from the Rutgers Food Innovation Center Business Incubator program to produce and manufacture locally without limitations.
“We believe that this is gonna flourish, we believe that this will work,” said Jerry Velazquez President and CEO of the CCIA. “And as I said before, we literally are negotiating currently with four businesses that want to locate here prior to the opening so we’re excited about that.”
The building will be located behind the Rutgers Food Innovation Center and is slated to be finished approximately one year from now.
