The Townsends Inlet Bridge will be closed for several hours next weekend so crews can begin the first phase of a $2.67 million project to replace the structure’s railings, Cape May County officials said Friday.
It is scheduled to close between 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, and 5 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, according to a news release.
Last month, county officials were presented with a number of expensive options to renovate or replace the 77-year-old bridge, which connects Sea Isle City and Avalon. It was closed for more than two months earlier this year after a crack was found in a support piling.
Workers are set to replace the bridge’s deteriorated steel railing, the release said. New reinforcement steel and concrete will also be placed in the area of each rail post.
