Grand opening for trailhead parking and nature trail

This spring, construction of a new, 24-spot public parking area was completed on the north side of High Hill Road, across from Frederick Boulevard in Woolwich Township. The parking area will serve as a trailhead and public access point to several adjacent properties acquired by the township in recent years for park and recreational purposes.

Construction of the parking area was partially funded through a $24,000 grant secured in February 2016, from the New Jersey Recreational Trails Program. The facility will serve to connect residents and visitors alike to miles of hiking trails being established that will bisect woodlands, meadows, and stunning views along Raccoon Creek, a tidal tributary to the Delaware River.

In preparation for the grand-opening on Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at 289 High Hill Road, the township partnered with the Swedesboro-Woolwich School District, student body and others, in coming up with a name for the new facility and nature trail. Over the past several weeks over a hundred possible names were submitted. After much deliberation and arm-wrestling among members of the Woolwich Township Committee, a name for the facility and trail has been selected that will be announced before a crowd of students, parents and other park enthusiasts.
