The city is on its way to getting a new hotel on Route 52, or MacArthur Boulevard.
Workers have cleared the site for a Home2 Suites by Hilton with 114 rooms, directly across the road from the Windjammer Restaurant. The new hotel is also just a short drive, bike ride or walk from Somers Point’s bridge to Ocean City.
Although the property is now clear, a representative for the owners said they don’t expect to open anytime soon. The hotel hopes to start welcoming guests by summer 2018.
The hotel will be all in one building, which will be four-plus stories high, according to city officials. The owners don’t want a liquor license, and the hotel’s only food-service option will be a “simple, hot breakfast.”
