Horizon investing $1M in Camden, Elizabeth, Paterson as part of revitalization program

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey announced a $1 million investment in three cities for community development projects.

Horizon will give the cities of Camden, Elizabeth and Paterson about half of the funding they will receive under the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit program, which Horizon has participated in for eight years.

Beneficiaries of the money include Cooper Health System, in Camden, and Trinitas Regional Medical Center, in Elizabeth.

In Camden, $919,375, of which $200,000 is from Horizon, will support Cooper, for a housing rehabilitation project and job-readiness training program. In addition, $585,000, of which $135,000 is from Horizon, will be used for new construction and repairs of homes, cleaning the commercial corridor, encouraging use of neighborhood parks and a neighborhood tree planting for the St. Joseph’s Carpenter Society.
