A master plan that sets rules for the township’s rapid growth has been approved, but don’t expect to see its impact anytime soon. Three members of the Township Committee Thursday signed off on the plan that has been debated for months, drawing dozens of people to public meetings to speak for and against it.
The document is so important, Mayor Ray Coles likened it to the “bible for development of Lakewood over the next 10 years.”
The plan sets density limits for new construction in Lakewood and addresses other growth issues, including establishing buffers around lakes and streams to reduce pollution, and mandating parking spaces at businesses and schools.
