New Pleasantville complex finding retail tenants

Two retail units at City Center on Main Street in Pleasantville will soon be occupied, and 7,000 square feet of space is still available for businesses to move in.

“The perception is that we can’t fill the storefronts because they’re sitting here empty on Main Street, but that’s just not true,” Mayor Jesse Tweedle said.

The complex features 18,000 square feet of retail space, and this fall City Center will welcome a HeadStart day care and a beauty supply store, said Kevin Cavanaugh, vice president of development for RPM Development Group.

“We’ve been very selective in choosing retail businesses for these spots, and now we are looking to let people know we have a commitment,” Tweedle said.

In May 2015, City Center opened its doors to tenants after the $34 million apartment and retail complex was completed. The project was underwritten by $7.3 million in federal funding through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and its affiliate, the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, in addition to private financing. The two-building apartment complex also includes 135 residential units, which are full, and there is a waiting list for potential residents.
