Strolling along Bank Avenue in the borough will soon be an entirely new experience.
Construction is underway on the Palmyra Promenade, a riverfront park tucked between Garfield and Morgan avenues. It should be completed around Labor Day, officials said.
The 1-acre park will feature paved walkways, patio areas, custom bike racks shaped like fish, and benches donated by residents.
It’s been a longtime dream for Mayor Michelle Arnold to transform the empty space into a relaxing oasis.
But Arnold knew the municipality would not be able to afford to develop the space on its own. She and the Borough Council applied for a grant through the Burlington County Municipal Park Development Assistance Program, which helps towns build or improve parks through open space funds.
The program provides up to $250,000 individual grants annually from the taxpayer-approved fund.
The borough was selected to receive $125,000 from the 2015 program. An additional $25,000 was contributed from municipal funds.
