Renovations coming to Voorhees library

Camden County officials are preparing for extensive renovations at the county’s main library here.

The changes are intended to create “a modern environment” at the 40-year-old M. Allen Vogelson Library, which serves about 35,000 customers a year, the county said in a statement.

The three-story building, on Laurel Road across from Voorhees Town Center, was last renovated 20 years ago. The modernized site is expected to include “state-of-the-art research areas, conference rooms, study and technology spaces, classrooms, gathering spaces and office spaces,” said Freeholder William Moen, liaison to the county library system. “A new entryway is also envisioned,” he added.

Freeholders have approved a $395,000 contract with a Monmouth County architecture firm to provide design services for the project. Moen, who called the contract “the first step,” said Settembrino Architects of Red Bank is to plan ways to improve the building’s functionality “while reducing operating and maintenance costs.”
