Santiago highlights need for growth in ‘State of Millville’ speech

Discussions have started on a replacement building for the city’s police force and court, now sharing space at 18 S. High St., Mayor Michael Santiago said.

“Our (police) department needs to grow,” said Santiago, a retired Millville police sergeant. “Whatever way you cut it, it needs to grow to support this city. And it’s time for this commission to take full responsibility in the next four years to have that project done.

Gerard Velazquez III, executive director of the Cumberland County Improvement Authority, later said the city very recently approached his organization about working together on some projects.

The mayor also said that a medical facility is proposed on North High Street. He did not further describe the concept or its developer.
