Towns in Pa., NJ, including Camden, ready to woo Amazon

As Amazon plays “The Bachelorette,” perusing the nation for a location to build a second headquarters, Bensalem, Pennsylvania, hopes to be rewarded with a rose, but it will have some competition from right across the river.

More than 100 municipalities and states nationwide, including Camden in South Jersey, New Brunswick in Central Jersey and reportedly Newark to the north, are vying for the honor.

Last week, the Camden County Board of Freeholders officially threw its hat in the ring, unanimously voting to work with the New Jersey Economic Development Agency to craft a proposal highlighting the county and specifically Camden City as the best option.

“Make no mistake, this is not an exercise. This is a process that we and our partners are passionately committed to. We believe a consolidated effort will make Camden and South Jersey stand out in the proposal competition,” said Camden County Freeholder Director Louis Cappelli in a statement. “And you better believe we will be enlisting the help of every stakeholder in the region to make this proposal a reality.”

Burlington County is already home to a regional Amazon fulfillment center in Florence. No county towns have announced plans to enter the race for the second headquarters.
