A development project for more than 500 housing units, a medical facility and shops broke ground last week, despite the mayor’s not-so-enthusiastic support.
Washington Square, a mixed-use development at Hurffville Crosskeys Road, is approved for hundreds of housing units and 70,000 square feet of medical and retail space on a 35-acre plot between Virtua Health and Wellness Center and Regal Cinema.
The project – a joint venture by developer Atkins Companies and real estate company Woodmont Properties – is approved for 260 luxury apartments, 100 townhouses, a 110-unit assisted living facility and 70 affordable low- and moderate-income rental apartments. Three 10,000-square-foot retail buildings would be located next to a 40,000-square-foot medical building. Rothman Institute will anchor the medical facility, operating in 20,000 square feet of space in the building. Rothman signed a 20-year lease for the second floor, according to Mandelbaum Salsburg, the firm brokering the investment deal.
