Job Fair: Employers On the Hunt for Camden Residents, Upcoming Grads

The recruiting event was sponsored by Camden Works with the city, Camden County, the Camden Community Partnership, the City School District, Center for Family Services and the Camden Education Fund.

Nearly 60 employers were represented at the Job Fair, including Subaru, Cooper University Health Care, Adventure Aquarium, the Special Services District, Covanta, Rondo-Pak and Freedom Mortgage. Mayor Victor Carstarphen walked down the aisle of employers’ tables at the fair, saying there would be more fairs this year. “This is the way to provide opportunities for employment,” Carstarphen told said.

Two recruiters made it clear that not every well-paying career requires a college diploma. Jonathan Young, a Camden County commissioner, was behind a recruiting table in his role as council representative of the Eastern Atlantic States, Regional Council of Carpenters, with Shane Tait, also a council representative. Both described the opportunities for applicants interested in a trade – in this case, a four-year apprenticeship and then journeyman work in Carpenters Local 255, which covers from Monmouth County to the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
