Hosted by the Southern New Jersey Development Council’s Government Affairs Committee, a crowd of business, education, and labor leaders gathered in the Rastelli Business & Corporate Center at Rowan College of South Jersey to learn more about the policy priorities of the District 3 & 4 Legislators.
Marlene Asselta, President of the SNJDC, welcomed the attendees and recognized the event sponsors and elected officials in attendance before turning things over to Dr. Candice Racite, Associate Vice President, University College Business Partnerships & Career Centers of Rowan College of South Jersey, who welcomed attendees to the business center. Dr. Racite touched n Rowan College's dedication to helping individuals grow and develop workforce skills by connecting them to resources they need to advance themselves.
PSEG Nuclear's Senior Director of Development, Jeffrey Stokes, served as program moderator, and briefly talked on the importance of nuclear power in New Jersey's energy infrastructure, before introducing each of the Legislators. The panel of speakers included Senator John Burzichelli, Assemblyman David Bailey Jr. and Assemblywoman Heather Simmons from the LD3, along with Assemblyman Dan Hutchison and Assemblyman Cody Miller from LD4.
Assemblyman Dan Hutchison addressed the need for elected officials to work together for the betterment of the region, and the importance of understanding both sides of a given issue. Assemblyman Cody Miller meanwhile discussed the necessity of New Jersey having a skilled and highly educated workforce, both through college and trades programs.
Assemblyman David Bailey discussed the adjustment to entering the legislative landscape, and the steps necessary for satisfying public interests. Assemblywoman Heather Simmons reflected on her tenure within New Jersey legislature, and touted the benefits of partnership between higher education and hot-button industries. Senator John Burzichelli provided remarks on some of the steps necessary to eliminate poverty and promote growth within the state.
Glenn Davila, President of Performance Marketing and SNJDC Chairman moderated an audience Q&A and closed out the event.
