More than 190 South Jersey business leaders participated in the recent Developing New Jersey’s Offshore Wind Supply Chain webinar hosted by the SNJDC’s Economic Development Committee. Attendees included professionals committed to the economic growth of the South Jersey region who were keen to learn more about needs, timing and pace of wind projects and the programs and resources necessary to support a sustainable and effective supply chain.
Jane Asselta, Vice President of the SNJDC, welcomed attendees and recognized the sponsors before turning things over to Andy Saporito, CEO & Executive Director of the South Jersey Port Corporation who moderated the event and introduced the lineup of speakers.
- Julia Kortrey, Sr. Project Officer, New Jersey Economic Development Authority;
- Vince Maione, Director, NJ Market Affairs, Ørsted;
- Grant van Wyngaarden, Sr. Supply Chain Development Manager, Ørsted;
- Lee Laurendeau, CEO, EEW American Offshore Structures; and
- Dane Pehrman, Senior Vice President – Energy Market Sector Lead, Haley & Aldrich.
The panelists gave detailed presentations on the state of offshore wind in New Jersey, including expected demand and available resources the NJEDA provides to support local businesses; an update on Ørsted’s Ocean Wind, New Jersey’s first offshore wind farm, and the supply chain needs for New Jersey businesses; the Pro-NJ Grantor Trust, a $15 million fund that offers small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses support to participate in the offshore wind industry; an update on EEW’s plans for a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility to build foundations for offshore wind turbines at the Port of Paulsboro; and a business case study sharing the considerations and techniques for connecting to, and developing business with, the offshore wind industry rounded out the presentations.
