40th Annual Sound Off for South Jersey

More than 150 engineers, architects, developers, construction contractors, professional services providers, members of the finance industry, and elected officials gathered at Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City, NJ for the 40th Annual Sound Off for South Jersey Policy Conference. Attendees include professionals committed to the economic growth of the South Jersey region keen to hear the views and plans from State policy makers on issues that impact the South Jersey region.

Mark Giannantonio, President & CEO of Resorts opened the program welcoming attendees to Atlantic City, followed by Lisa Morina, Vice President of Government & External Relations for Jefferson Health NJ, and SNJDC Vice Chair, introduced the speaker panels.

The first of two legislative discussions, a roundtable conversation with Senator Troy Singleton, D-7 and Senator Michael Testa, R-1, was moderated by Dr. Brigid Harrison of Montclair State University. The Senators discussed what unites them as leaders, and the common issues facing their districts such as transportation infrastructure, environmental justice and the impact of DEP regulations on economic development, addressing the opioid crisis and ensuring adequate funding and resources are allocated to South Jersey municipalities, and addressing labor shortage issues and workforce development through investment into higher education in our region.

Following the roundtable conversation, a moderated panel discussion on South Jersey’s Economic Recovery featured Senator Vince Polistina, R-2; Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald, D-6; Assemblywoman Beth Sawyer, R-3; and Assemblyman Bill Moen, D-5. Moderated by Dr. Benjamin Dworkin of the Rowan Institute for Public Policy & Citizenship, the panelists discussed their perspectives on several policy initiatives such as water infrastructure and extreme weather resiliency, how to alleviate the burden placed on business by the escalating cost of replenishing the depleted UI fund, and addressing the issues unique to each Legislator’s district.

Attendees enjoyed extending networking at the closing reception on the rooftop pool overlooking the beach and Atlantic Ocean post event.
