$50M in tax breaks approved for Rowan Blvd. projects

The state Economic Development Authority has approved more than $50 million in tax credits for two phases of the ongoing Rowan Boulevard project.

The authority gave its blessing Tuesday morning to $30.1 millions in tax breaks for one project, dubbed A-3, and $20.8 million for the other, A-4. Both projects include student housing and apartments, while one includes a parking garage.

“This was a huge hurdle,” Glassboro Administrator Joe Brigandi said of the approvals.

The Rowan Boulevard project is a public private partnership that has produced several new facilities, including Marriott Hotel, Barnes & Noble and the enormous 220 Rowan Boulevard, which includes student housing, apartments, retail and medical facilities.

The project has drawn in several restaurants and retail operators since breaking ground in 2009. The goal of this effort is to redevelop downtown Glassboro while also addressing Rowan’s growing student housing needs.
