A plan to combine two South Jersey hospitals this year could be a “game changer,” the mayor says

A proposed alliance between two New Jersey healthcare companies continues to receive broad support a year after the institutions announced their intentions to merge.

The Cape Regional Health System formalized its decision with Cooper University Health Care in late 2022, citing the need to partner with a stronger entity to gain financial support to provide better services to Jersey Cape.

The company operates Cape Regional Medical Center, the only hospital in Cape May County accessible from either the Garden State Parkway or Route 9.

Cooper, a $2 billion nonprofit corporation, has a 635-bed hospital, a children’s hospital, the MD Anderson Cancer Center and Rowan University’s Cooper Medical School.
