The island is taking steps to see what it can do to address the significant amount of beach erosion happening at The Cove.
The erosion could impact 4-by-4 vehicle access to the popular beach location, Mayor Vince Sera said Thursday. The area has lost more than 900 feet of beach, causing concern about potential damage to homes and city infrastructure in that area, Sera said.
City Council awarded a $35,837 contract to the Coastal Research Center at Stockton to monitor the municipal shoreline and assess the beach erosion at the Absecon Inlet jetty, in addition to conducting an emergency event survey.
