Cold has Stockton’s maple syrup project primed for strong season in fourth year

The colder temperatures over the past couple of weeks have made those with Stockton University’s Maple Project team very happy.

“We are really excited that this year we have great weather conditions. The number of people who have complained about how cold it is outside to me, I’m just smiling,” said Judy Vogel, the Stockton math professor who’s the director of the project. “I just put on an extra layer and walk outside with a big grin on my face.”

The project kicked off its fourth season of tapping trees on the Galloway campus last week, according to a statement from the school. The program is funded by two federal Department of Agriculture grants totaling more than $900,000.
