Cumberland County awarded federal funds to support food and shelter programs

Cumberland County has been awarded $90,866 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to supplement food and shelter programs in the area.

A local board consisting of community churches, organizations and advocates then decides how the funds are distributed to emergency food and shelter programs throughout the county.

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government, eligible to receive federal funds, have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, demonstrate the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter programs and have a voluntary board if it is a private voluntary organization.
