Energy firms predict cheaper wind power

The cost of offshore wind projects will go down as more large wind farms go up off New Jersey and other East Coast states, predicted representatives of companies in line to build them off New Jersey.

They presented information about their companies and projects Tuesday at the New Jersey Offshore Wind Energy Forum at Stockton University, which almost filled the Campus Center theater with more than 100 attendees.

Fishermen’s Energy has long been trying to build a potentially 25 megawatt offshore wind farm in state waters about 2.8 miles off Atlantic City, but has been turned down for permission to proceed by the state Board of Public Utilities. Paul Gallagher of Fishermen’s Energy said it has a $50 million federal grant it cannot use unless the BPU cooperates.
