Funds set to flow to Camden renovation

The Nick Virgilio Writers’ House has secured funds to move ahead with the rehabilitation of a building at Ferry Avenue and Broadway in the Waterfront South section of the city. Voorhees-based American Water will provide $600,000 – the full amount needed to renovate and restore the building – through the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit program administered by the state.

American, which provides only a fraction of Camden’s water, had been funding projects in the Cramer Hill section of the city, which it does service. But as demand there diminished, the utility shifted to other parts of the city, said spokesman Peter A. Eschbach. “Our neighborhood does not end where the pipe stops,” he noted.
