Moorestown Township residents can vote on bringing games of chance to mall

Moorestown Mall has launched a petition drive to build support for a voter referendum to bring games of chance to the shopping center.

If voters approve, Moorestown Mall’s proposal calls for a family entertainment center in the former Lord + Taylor department store. Discounter Turn 7 is currently occupying the 121,000-square-foot space on a lease that ends this year, according to PREIT.

If enough signatures of registered Moorestown voters are collected, the gaming question would be voted on in the November municipal election. The signatures of at least 1,350 valid voters are required to place it on the ballot, according to Moorestown officials.

Games of chance involve the award of prizes or issuance of redemption tickets not unlike those at venues like Dave & Buster’s, Main Event and Round 1 located in New Jersey and elsewhere.

Soon the mall will offer major health services with construction of a 165,000-square-foot Cooper University Health Care center inside a former Sears store facing Route 38.
