New wood, new look on the Wildwood Boardwalk

It’s called Cedar Avenue, but it is cumaru that is replacing ipe on the Wildwood Boardwalk as an extensive reconstruction of the structure continues this winter.

Installation of the distinctive red wood is underway as part of renovations to that entrance to the Boardwalk to include new signs. New timber piles and framing are complete, according to information released by the city Thursday.

Jersey Shore boardwalks have been in the news recently with Gov. Phil Muphy having signed a $100 million boardwalk preservation fund. Murphy helped Wildwood move forward on the first phases of its Boardwalk reconstruction over the past three years, with a statement from Wildwood saying the Democratic governor played a pivotal role in the reconstruction work so far.
