Straub exploring uses for “Revel Pearl”

A 40-foot-tall spherical light that sits atop Atlantic City’s tallest casino was turned on Monday night for the first time in more than a year and a half.

The light, a bravura of modern signage that the American Galvanizers Association dubbed The Revel Pearl, is a symbol, visible ten miles away on a clear night, of a business that spared no expense on flash and fanfare but collapsed quickly under the weight of its opulence.

Glenn Straub, whose company bought the building in April after a bankruptcy auction, said he was testing the light Monday, and he planned to avail himself of its audio-visual capability.

Straub’s stated plan for Revel is to reopen it in June with a casino, restaurants, 500 hotel rooms and amateur sports facilities.
