Camden’s New Eastside High Will Be on Current Site, Open in 2029

A new $105-million Eastside High School in Camden– constructed on the site of the current high school – will feature new laboratories and new course offerings in subjects such as marine biology and EMT/health sciences training.

Eastside students will be relocated from the building at Federal and South 31st streets to another school building as the new school is being built, with a 2029 opening scheduled, district Superintendent Katrina T. McCombs said in an interview. The first class to enter the new high school now is in sixth grade.

DIGroup Architecture, which designed the new Camden High School that opened in 2021, will do the same for the new Eastside High School. McCombs said the architectural firm, with offices in Philadelphia and New Brunswick, understands the city and will be involved in community engagement meetings to solicit opinions from students, parents, residents and other stakeholders.

McCombs said the new high school will be unique and very different from Camden High. However, the district did learn lessons from building Camden High and expects to apply them to Eastside.
