South Jersey Business Community Discusses Building South Jersey’s Workforce

A gathering of South Jersey education and business leaders, along with State, County and local officials gathered at the Camden County Boathouse in Pennsauken, NJ for the SNJDC’s Building South Jersey’s Workforce forum. Attendees included professionals committed to the economic growth of the South Jersey region who were keen to learn more about efforts and programs to grow and support the regions workforce.

Marlene Asselta, President of the SNJDC, welcomed the attendees and recognized the event sponsors and elected officials in attendance before turning things over to Bill Moen, Director of Workforce Development for Camden County College, who introduced the speakers and moderated the program.

The program featured a series of presentations, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A. Mavis Asiedu Frimpong, Executive Director, and Devon Ziminski, Senior Research Administrator, of the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers-Camden discussed the current state of workforce development in our region and gave an overview of their recently published multi-year research on “Seeking Work in Southern New Jersey”.

Case Study: A Model for Success: Rachele Dorsey, Program Manager for Workforce Development at Exelon, presented a case study and model for success outlining Atlantic City Electric’s infrastructure program and other initiatives.

Jen Becker, Vice President for Offshore Wind and Managing Director of the Wind Institute for Innovation & Training at the New Jersey Economic Development Authority outlined their efforts to build the future workforce of New Jersey to address the burgeoning offshore wind manufacturing needs.

Assembly Majority Leader Lou Greenwald also provided remarks, and Fred Keating, President of Rowan College of South Jersey, closed out the program.
