Stockton alumnus expands communication disorders scholarship

A Stockton University alumnus has donated $25,000 to expand the scholarship he established in 2020 in honor of the state speech pathologist who helped him with his lifelong stutter.

The Seeta Voorakkara Communications Disorders Memorial Foundation was expanded by Alex Kaganzev and Voorakkara’s son, Sid, via the donation made last Wednesday, Stockton said Tuesday in a news release.

The scholarship will now provide two $1,000 scholarships a year to selected students pursuing a degree in communication disorders and speech pathology. In past years, only one student had been selected for the scholarship.

Stockton President Joe Bertolino thanked Kaganzev for the donation. “I have to say it’s pretty stunning to me how you met and how this person just brought you into their home and brought you into their lives,” Bertolino said. “Sometimes we forget how one act, or one individual, can set into motion a series of events that can change multiple lives.”
