BPU hosts electricity auction on Friday

Atlantic City Electric customers, along with the three other large New Jersey electric companies’ customers, will soon know how much they will be paying for power through the rest of the year.

The Board of Public Utilities will hold its 15th annual Basic Generation Service Auction starting on Friday, when the four major electricity-distribution companies purchase power.

Last year, of the four participating companies (Atlantic City Electric, Public Service Electric and Gas Company, Jersey Central Power and Light Company and Rockland Electric Company), Atlantic City Electric saw a 3 percent decrease in costs, which meant cheaper electricity costs for customers as of June of 2015.

A first auction will be held on Friday for the power supplying commercial and industrial customers. A second auction will be held on Monday for the power for smaller, residential customers.
