Rooms with a view: Could a hotel be in store for AC’s Garden Pier?

Bart Blatstein, who already controls a mall built over the ocean and a hotel on the Boardwalk, has told city officials he’s considering building a hotel over the ocean.

Blatstein is the Philadelphia-based developer who last year converted the former Pier at Caesars into the Playground, the shopping and entertainment complex that runs 1,000 or so feet over the ocean. And in January, he finished buying the former Showboat Casino Hotel from Stockton University.

Atlantic City has formally chosen Blatstein’s Tower Investments for a redevelopment project at Garden Pier, the century-old, city-owned pier that’s been damaged by storms several times in its history.

Garden Pier is now home to the Atlantic City Art Center and the city’s Historical Museum, but in a brief summary of the Tower plan, the company told the city it will “explore … the construction of new buildings to accomodate various types of entertainment, commercial and dining activities; even the potential for a future waterfront hotel at the ocean end of the pier.”
